Overview
On this page, we studythe graphs of two important classes of functions: exponential and logarithmic functions.
Basic Learning Objectives
These are the tasks you should be able to perform with reasonable fluency when you arrive at your next class meeting. Important new vocabulary words are indicated in italics.
- Know the general shape of the graph of an exponential or logarithmic function, and be able to sketch graphs of these functions by making a table of values.
Advanced Learning Objectives
In addition to mastering the basic objectives, here are the tasks you should be able to perform after class, with practice:
- Find the domain, range, intercepts, and asymptotes of an exponential or logarithmic function.
To prepare for class
-
Watch the following video (by Khan Academy) which shows how to graph an exponential function by making a table of values, and discusses the idea of exponential growth:
-
Watch the following video (by Khan Academy) which shows how to graph a logarithmic function by making a table of values:
-
Watch the following video (by Don’t Memorise) which shows how to graph a logarithmic function by making a table of values, and also how the graph of exponential and logarithmic functions are related:
After class
-
Watch the following video (by patrickJMT) which shows how to graph exponential functions and find their domain, range, intercepts, and asymptote:
-
Watch the following videos (by The Organic Chemistry Tutor) which show how to graph logarithmic functions and find their domain, range, intercepts, and asymptote:
